Nothing Says “I Love You” Like heart-shaped Sushi This Valentine’s Day
Posted: Feb 09 2015
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Instead of heading out to a restaurant this year, avoid the crowds and the cold by staying in and surprising your significant other with a romantic, sushi-by-candlelight Valentine’s dinner at home.
At Fish For Sushi, we love to make it easy to create unique sushi rolls that satisfy the individual palates of all your friends and family. Whether you’re celebrating V-Day with your vegetarian boyfriend, your seafood-loving family, or with friends who like their sushi any way they can get it, heart-shaped sushi made with love (and the highest quality sashimi) is an extra special way to show your affection.
Making this heart-felt sushi dish is much easier than you might think; simply roll your sushi (see instructions), squish down one side and round out the other until you end up with a tear drop shape, then press the two together into a hear. Wasabi makes a perfect glue to holdthe two teardrops together.

Fish For Sushi will deliver your sushi ingredients to your door!
- Cover the bamboo mat with plastic wrap. Lay a piece of nori on the mat, shiny side down, rough side facing up.
- Lay one sheet of sushi rice on the nori. Place your fillings at the bottom of the nori and roll up the sushi.
- Using either the mat or your hands, press and pinch one side down so that it makes a point; flatten the edge and then round out the other side into a raindrop. The roll should be symmetrical, so flatten or round as needed. Don’t be afraid of tearing the nori, it’s actually more durable than you think.
- Once you have achieved the perfect raindrop shape, use a very sharp knife to cut the roll into 6 or 8 pieces. Place two pieces side by side to make your heart. Use a little wasabi to help them stick together if you like.
- Serve immediately.
Celebrate your love with a unique treat for the sushi lover in your life. But remember, sushi isn’t just for lovers. Make it for friends and family and spread the love!
